Concours Detailing Day 1 of 5

Began Saturday by removing all wheels and cleaning them inside and out. They were absolutely filthy inside the barrels. I forgot to take after pics since there was so much work to get done. They didn't come out perfect there still was a bit of staining that I couldn't remove. Here's the before pic anyway. All 4 were as bad as this.
The wheels got Chemical Guys Diablo Wheel Gel and the tyres got APC. Both scrubbed till I could scrub no more.

After the wheels were cleaned, I sprayed some APC in the arches and callipers and let it soak for a couple of minutes (wheels still off). Not a lot of crud was present and generally quite clean when agitated with a brush. Rinsed it all out and sprayed some 303 on the plastic bits. Wiped down with a clean microfiber.

Engine bay is a scary thing because there are cables, wires and electrical components all over the place, so I concentrated on high build up areas. Targeted them with degreaser and a variety of brushes. After a gentle spot rinse, I started the car and let it idle for 15min till temps hit 85c and the radiator clutch fan roars into life. Step on the gas and the fan spins faster, cooling the engine and I turned it off when the fan disengages.

Next was a high concentration of CT18 in the foam lance. I let that sit for a few minutes, power washed it off then CT18 in a 2BM. Cleaned around badges with APC and soft brush.

That's all I had time for today. Time taken so far was 8 hours -30 min for lunch. I know, that's REALLY slow, but it's really the first time I've dome this and those wheels were a bi-atch.

A note for next time, I should have done a bug and tar remover before the foam bath. I'll do that tomorrow , rinse and start the claying.
